About
One guide, one or two anglers, and water I know well
Vilano Kayak Fishing Co. is a one-person operation fishing the inshore water around Vilano Beach & St. Augustine, Florida. There is no fleet, no office, and no deckhand — when you book a trip, you get me and nobody else.
Why the trips are small
I cap every trip at 2 anglers. That is not a soft limit that grows for the right price — it is the entire design of the thing. Two is the most people I can keep genuinely safe on open water in separate boats while still watching closely enough to be useful.
It also means the day is actually yours. We fish where the conditions say we should, at your pace, chasing what you want to chase, and if you want to spend forty minutes working one bank until you get it right, we can.
Teaching is the product
Plenty of guides will put you on a fish. That is a good day and there is nothing wrong with it. But you go home with a photo and no more idea how to do it again than you had that morning.
I would rather you left able to launch on your own, read a flat, pick a spot on a given tide, and know why. That means I explain what I am doing while I do it, I let you make the cast rather than making it for you, and I tell you when a decision was wrong and what I would do differently. Some of that is less comfortable than being handed a rod. It is also the only thing that lasts.
Beginners are the normal case
Most people who book have never fished from a kayak, and a good number have never seriously fished at all. That is genuinely fine — it is what the small group size is for. Nobody here is going to make you feel slow for asking how a reel works.
Experienced anglers get a different trip: less instruction, more water, and a straight conversation about tactics and spots you do not know yet.
Straight answers
I will tell you if your date looks bad. I will tell you if the species you want is a long shot that week. I will call a trip off for weather rather than take your money and put us somewhere unpleasant. None of that is me being difficult — it is the only way a small operation that runs on word of mouth survives.
