I have never fished from a kayak. Is that a problem?

No — it is the normal case. Most of my trips are someone who has never done this before, and a good number have never seriously fished at all. The whole reason I cap trips at one or two people is so a beginner gets taught rather than carried along.

Question 2

Do I need my own kayak or gear?

Accepted Answer

No. The kayak, paddle, life jacket, rods, reels, tackle and bait are all provided, along with cold drinks. You bring a fishing licence, sun protection, and shoes you do not mind soaking.

Do I need a fishing licence?

Accepted Answer

Yes — every angler is responsible for their own Florida saltwater fishing licence, unless they are exempt. It takes a few minutes to buy online from FWC. Turning up without one means we cannot fish, so sort it before the trip.

Question 4

How much is it, and when do I pay?

Trips are $125 for 2 hours, $200 for 4, $275 for 6, and $350 for a full 8-hour day — per person. You pay on the day, at the launch: cash, Zelle, Venmo or Cash App. There is no deposit and no card on file.

Question 5

How many people can come?

One or two anglers, and that limit does not move. Two is the most I can keep genuinely safe in separate boats on open water while still watching closely enough to be any use to you.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If I judge it unsafe or unfishable, I call the trip off — usually the night before — and you owe nothing. You either reschedule to any date that suits you, or walk away. Plain rain without lightning or wind is not bad weather; fish often feed better in it, and that trip goes ahead.

Can I bring my child?

Yes, with a parent or legal guardian's written consent on the release of liability. The guardian does not have to come on the trip, but they do have to sign. For younger children, message me first — whether it works depends far more on the child and the conditions than on an age.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

Not strong, but you do need to be comfortable in open water and able to keep yourself afloat if you end up in it. Kayaks tip. It is rarely dramatic. You will wear a life jacket the whole time you are on the water, and that is a condition of coming rather than a suggestion.

What will we catch?

Redfish, speckled trout, flounder and black drum are what this water holds. Which is realistic depends on season, tide and conditions that week. Ask me when you request a date and I will tell you honestly what is feeding and what is a long shot. Nobody can guarantee a fish, and anyone who does is selling something.

How do I book?

Send a trip request with the dates you are considering. I check the tide and the forecast and write back, usually the same day. Nothing is held until I confirm it in writing — and once we have a date, you sign the release of liability online before we launch.
